Once again the past month has proved popular with ‘Stop Press’ items and with more to come ….
Keith Peirce quickly sold his low houred Cameron Sport 90 G-CKXE, Jim Atkinson his Worthingtons and fan, Peter Mossman his basket, Ian Jones several trailers whilst Arthur Street commented that the word “Free” in ads sounds very attractive to balloonists!
For August these pages offer a 110hrs Cameron Concept 80 due to Peter Meecham’s “ballooning retirement”, a tired somewhat smelly LBL 90 envelope, and Charles Desmet is splitting his very low houred Cameron Z-42 PH-HOT into envelope and bottom end.
Sandy Mitchell our reporter in France tells us that the number of balloons at the revamped “Metz” meet ‘Enenvol’ were well down on previous years with 188 balloons over the entire meet, the British contingent down to just 39, less than half of the figure for the biennial mass exodus of G- balloons in the 1990s.
In the last couple of days we have heard the dates and location for the ever popular One Man Meet. This year it will be from 3rd to 5th October at a new venue of Popham airfield, SO21 3BD. For full details email Wendy & John at onemanmeet@btinternet.com
We only heard of the sad news that David Griffiths had died when the August Aerostat arrived last week. Very much an East Midlands man he eventually took over Dave Ling’s passenger rides business becoming ‘Ladybird Balloons’. He was a Zebedee customer with us selling much of his equipment over the years, especially on retirement. He spent much UK winter time in Malaysia, the original home of wife Maria, to whom we offer our condolences.
