Sold on the run up to Christmas were a 210 envelope, complete Cameron Z-225 and a complete 77. Transferring from ‘Stop Press’ for sale this issue are a complete H-34 and a Getaflug AS-105GD Airship, along with 3 trailers – also available is a job and a business opportunity in Canada.
From Zebedee for January comes three quite modern five horsepower fans, a quite old Cameron 77 basket which following a bit of base hide work and new spreader board as part of its cushion floor should give good service for years to come. Also an unused ‘Jim Romain’ prop for a 13hp fan. Sadly Jim died several years ago so this is a lovely bit of history ….
A gremlin got into the Zebedee tank list last month, transposing some of the details and missing others. These errors are corrected this issue.
The Icicle Refrozen Meet, held on January 4th/5th at Donnington Grove Hotel, Newbury saw several balloons fly both days and a larger number inflate or tether – including several examples which flew at the 1977 event. These included G-BEND, the much travelled Cameron V-56 owned by the Dante Group which your Zebedee List team flew on its maiden flight from that meet. Hard to believe that was 43 years ago!!
Congratulations to the organising team from the 3/4/40 region once again for maintaining the Icicle tradition of a friendly fun meet – including the maiden free flight of the latest BT balloon – Ultramagic G-CLGB too! After dinner speaker Brian Jones was especially well received telling the story of the build up to the historic first round-the-world flight in Breitling Orbiter III (1999) including some of the quite serious technical issues encountered. Nice to see a picture of the Chateau-d’Oex take off which reminds us that the next meets on the 2020 calendar are Filzmoos, Austria followed by the classic Swiss alpine meet from the Orbiter take off site.
