Zebedee Balloon Service has always published details of balloons and equipment when reported stolen anywhere in the world. With no less than 14 envelopes (in many cases complete rigs) stolen in the UK alone and not recovered in the past seven years, it is felt one must surface one day, possibly indicating what has happened to other examples.

Basic details of envelopes and what disappeared with them follows, plus dates, venues and contacts. Pictures are included on the net where available. Comments, updates and missing pictures (including any of stolen trailers) are welcome at Zebedee, fax +44 1488 681527, or by post to Hayward Cross, Hungerford, Berks RG17 0QD, UK.

Still Missing...

PH-MMG

1 off Redrow branded Ifor Williams trailer, SN 00493445. The model number is BV106G and comes with a roller shutter door at the back and with a 6’ head room.Inside the trailer is:
  1. Lindstrand 105A Envelope SN 1118, Registration G-RROW and looks like the image on the side of the trailer.
  2. Lindstrand 110 x 155 Straight top basket with scuff leather bottom trim, leather top trim and has a Redrow basket banner, as per the photo:
  3. Lindstrand Jetstream II Double Toggle Burner in Black BU 1070
  4. Cameron CV30 Duplex ADR Cylinders, Rego Quick Shut Off x 6, all with red jackets. SN 00021, 00034, 00062, 00213, 00215, 00220.
  5. Lindstrand Handling Line, First Aid Kit, Fire Extinguisher Bag and Passenger bag fitted into basket all in black with red trim.
  6. Lindstrand 8hp Fan FA 496
Trailer 2 was also an Ifor Williams very similar to the Redrow trailer but with Virgin branding on the sides. This trailer was relatively empty bar a Lindstrand Fan SN FA 384 which was complete less a front guard cage and propeller, and 4 off cylinders as follows: Worthington 36991J, T&C V30 3091, Cameron 60ltr 3657 – 2049, Cameron 60 ltr 2599 – 1187, all fitted with red cylinder jackets.

The thieves have ripped out a fence and steel reinforced concrete post at the rear of the factory, through which they have taken the trailers. The Redrow trailer had a tow hitch lock which they must have broken to be able to take it away (Ifor Williams trailers have been informed in case they try to get spares). Both trailers were last seen on the A5 heading north towards Wrexham / Chester at 5.45 pm on the 15th of March.

G-BXFZ
G-BXFZ
Sky 65-24, s/n 065. Black with 'Vauxhall' artwork. Complete balloon on trailer. Stolen from Cannock in early April 1999.
Some components have surfaced but in poor condition having
obviously been left out in the elements for some considerable time. The owner was contacted by someone wanting to sell him
back the wet partly cut-up envelope, 2 stainless steel tanks (no jackets, valves rusted up), serials missing and rotting red top
basket. Having seen these components and identified them as from G-BXFZ, Kevin and his insurers declined the offer to buy.
Said “seller” is still out there and has been in contact with Camerons trying to offload the same items - which are still on the
stolen list - beware ...! The remainder of the rig, including the trailer, fan and Worthington tanks have not been reported.
